VHP urges strict action against illegal cattle transport, slaughter ahead of Bakrid

Mangaluru: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has urged the state govt and police to strictly enforce existing laws to curb illegal transportation and slaughter of cattle and confiscate properties where cattle slaughter or sacrifice is allegedly carried out.VHP Pranta Sahakaryadarshi Sharan pumpwell told reporters on Tuesday that the law prohibits cruelty, killing, or sacrifice of cattle, including cows, bulls, calves, and buffaloes below 13 years of age, and classifies such acts as punishable offences.Ahead of Bakrid, Sharan demanded intensified checks along cattle smuggling routes particularly in border areas to prevent illegal transportation of cattle. He called for deployment of additional police and reserve forces in sensitive areas until May 28, and added that repeat offenders should face stricter legal action, including bail rejection.Vehicle owners involved in illegal cattle transportation should also be arrested, he added, demanding seizure and monitoring of such vehicles to prevent repeat offences. The VHP also asked citizens to immediately report cattle-related offences to the police and assist local Bajrang Dal and VHP volunteers.
