MANGALURU: Glitches in the Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS) have resurfaced in Karnataka, disrupting online admissions for the upcoming academic year even as colleges continue offline admissions.Government, aided and unaided colleges with permanently affiliated courses have reported that they are unable to complete the online admission process on UUCMS, which is required as official confirmation of admission. Sources said the problem is being reported across districts, indicating a statewide issue rather than an isolated technical failure.According to a principal of a government first grade college, the annual workflow requires higher education department officials to upload and update the list of colleges and courses holding permanent affiliation on the UUCMS portal. In contrast, lists related to temporary affiliation are uploaded by the respective universities. This year, the principal said, the department’s documentation and updates for permanent affiliation have not been completed, blocking colleges from proceeding with online admissions for those courses. The principal said the delay has created administrative uncertainty for institutions that depend on UUCMS records for verification and reporting.Sources said that with online entries stalled, students are blaming colleges for delays, even though the issue lies with the centralised portal. Offline admissions may allow students to reserve seats, but without UUCMS confirmation many linked services cannot move forward. The delay has direct consequences for access to govt hostels and education-linked welfare support. Students pointed to the academic calendar, as classes for the new academic year are expected to begin on July 20. They need UUCMS-generated admission documents to complete hostel admissions and apply for scholarships and related benefits, and the current outage is preventing them from submitting required proof within timelines.Ganesh Sanjeev, registrar of Mangalore University, said principals from colleges under the university have raised complaints and the matter has been escalated to the higher education department. The issue stems from delays in uploading permanent affiliation documents and officials have communicated that the pending work is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
