Man Loses Rs 2.12 lakh in debit card fraud
Rs 2.12 lakh mysteriously siphoned off account via fraud, victim alerted by SMS

Udupi: A man allegedly lost over Rs 2.1 lakh to cyberfraudsters after unauthorised transactions were carried out from his bank account without his knowledge.According to police, the complainant had made a payment towards his hospital bill using his debit card while undergoing treatment at a hospital on June 3. The complainant stated that he had not carried out any further financial transactions. However, on June 8, he received an SMS alert informing him that money had been debited from his account. On approaching his bank and verifying the transaction details, he discovered that Rs 2.12 lakh had been fraudulently transferred from his account to an unknown account between June 5 and 8, without his knowledge. Based on the complaint, Udupi Town police have registered a case for an offence punishable under Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, and have launched an investigation into the incident.
