Mangaluru: The Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivrudhi Samiti has urged Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta to intervene and prioritise the introduction and extension of Bengaluru- and Mumbai-bound train services from Mangaluru Central railway station. In a letter dated Oct 11, the organisation said Mangaluru Central had historically catered mainly to trains bound for Kerala and Tamil Nadu, while demands for more services connecting coastal Karnataka with Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat and northern Karnataka had not been addressed. It cited the termination of trains 12133/12134 Mumbai CSMT–Mangaluru Junction SF Express and 16575/16576 Yeshwantpur–Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Express at Mangaluru Junction, instead of Mangaluru Central, as an example of the issue. It also said the commissioning of platforms 4 and 5 at Mangaluru Central had eased terminal-related constraints, but the services had not been extended to the station.
