Mangaluru: Trekking activities in the Kudremukh division have been suspended for the past two days following heavy rainfall in the region, officials from the Kudremukh Wildlife Division in Karkala said.Trekking routes under the Kudremukh, Belthangady and Kerekatte ranges have been closed due to unsafe conditions, including slippery trails, swollen streams, and the risk of falling trees and branches.The region has received intense rainfall over the last few days, prompting continuous monitoring of ground conditions by forest officials. Water levels briefly rose above a bridge near Kalasa before receding. “The situation is being reviewed based on weather conditions, and a decision on reopening the routes will be taken after assessing rainfall levels,” an official said.No major incidents or casualties have been reported so far, though several instances of tree falls have been recorded. While trekking remains suspended, safari operations at Kodachari are continuing.Officials said the precautionary closure was based on reports from range-level officers monitoring rainfall intensity and trail conditions. Forest personnel stationed at check-posts and camps remain on alert to clear fallen trees and ensure visitor safety.Such closures are common during the monsoon, and trekking routes will be reopened once conditions improve, officials said. Visitors with prior bookings through the forest department portal will receive refunds for cancellations, and alerts are being sent to registered trekkers.
