Bengaluru: A man in his early 30s assaulted and abused his wife and father-in-law before hurling his 11-month-old female baby minutes before the infant’s naming ceremony at a hotel in south Bengaluru in mid-July.The infant suffered a skull fracture and is said to be out of danger now. The baby’s father, currently unemployed, was reportedly upset that he had to wait at the venue, while his wife and her parents took time to reach the place for the naming ceremony.According to a complaint filed by Shreya (name changed), from Hesaraghatta in north Bengaluru, the incident took place between 10am and 10.30am on July 17 in Paadmanabhanagar, Banashankari.Shreya, 29, stated her husband had booked a hotel in Koramangala for his friends and stayed with them overnight. Shreya called him the next morning and asked him to reach the party hall on time. The ceremony was scheduled between 9.30am and 10.30am.What was to be a joyous celebration turned violent after the husband reached the venue much earlier than Shreya and her family members did.The complainant alleged he publicly questioned why she arrived late, accused her and her family of trying “to insult” him, and created a scene in front of guests. He slapped and kicked her and abused her.When her father intervened, he pushed him and assaulted him badly. He snatched his baby from the grandfather’s arms and threw the child towards him, causing the infant to sustain a fracture on the left part of the skull.The complaint states a hotel staff member who intervened to stop the assault was bitten and injured by her husband.The injured baby was rushed to hospital, where doctors confirmed a fracture. Shreya told police the infant continues to undergo treatment and requires regular hospital visits.A case has been registered under the Juvenile Justice Act at Banashankari police station.
