Mangaluru: ‘DNA Karavali Dhwani’, a programme on disability awareness and inclusive development, organised by Disability NGO Alliance (DNA) , Maya Parents For Inclusive Development, Arivu Early Intervention Centre in association with Lions Club Ashokanagar Charitable Trust and Lions Club Mangaluru Ashokanagar will be held on June 23, at Ashoka Lions Seva Bhavan.Poornima Bhat, founder director of Arivu Early Intervention Centre on Friday, said that the aim of the event is to bring specially challenged children to the mainstream. Highlighting the programme she said organisations, parents of special children, public representatives and medical representatives will participate. During the event, we will record the concerns of the parents and form a report on this and submit it to govt.She demanded govt to set up a parents panel in order to take decisions regarding special children. This is our attempt to make Dakshina Kannada a model district for development of special children, Bhat said. Advisory board member, Sheetal Ullal said that until the age of 18, such children get all facilities. After 18, the children should get vocational training including tailoring, gardening etc through capacity identification, to get them to the mainstream, she added.The programme aims to create awareness on disability rights, early identification and intervention, inclusive education, healthcare support and community participation. Health minister UT Khader, Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath will be present.
