46% freshers pass Karnataka pre-university exam-2

Bengaluru: Freshers clocked a pass percentage of 46% in the PU exam-2, whose results were announced Thursday. With this, the consolidated pass percentage hit 92.2%, an improvement of 7 percentage points from last year.As many as 80,535 students appeared for exam-2, and 36,764 passed. The pass percentage was 51% for science, 43% for commerce, and 44% for arts.The consolidated results for 2026 (exams 1 and 2 put together) show that 96% science students passed, 93% of commerce, and 83% of arts students.The exam was held from April 30 to May 13 at 253 centres. This time, there is no third exam. Girls registered a pass percentage of 47%, as against 45% for boys. Sixty-two students achieved distinction, 8,086 first class, and 16,940 second class.In the second exam, the highest number of centums was in maths (315). Chemistry saw 75 centums and physics 61. Biology had 36 centums and computer science 48. Sixty students scored full marks in Kannada. Maths had in exam-1 seen 10,982 centums.“Several planned measures taken by the department are behind this success. The appointment of guest lecturers at the beginning of the academic year, instructions to complete the syllabus by December, availability of question banks and model question papers have helped. These results are clear proof of our govt’s vision that no child should be left behind,” school education and literacy minister Madhu Bangarappa said in a press note.The pass percentage of repeaters in this exam is 24% and that of private candidates is 30%.
