Over 500 students sensitised on marine litter; 300kg plastic waste removed from beaches

Udupi: More than 500 students from across Udupi were sensitised to the impact of marine litter and plastic pollution as part of a two-day coastal conservation programme. The initiative was followed by a clean-up drive at Kaup and Malpe beaches, where volunteers removed nearly 300 kg of plastic waste.The programme was organised by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), under the ministry of earth sciences, in association with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT). It formed part of the nationwide ‘Swachh Sagar Surakshit Sagar 2026’ campaign, held at 40 coastal locations across India.The awareness programme began at Govt Composite PU College, Malpe, on Friday. Students of the college and Shree Narayana Guru English Medium School, Malpe, attended the session. MP Kota Srinivasa Poojary inaugurated the programme, while MLA Yashpal A Suvarna presided.
