Mangaluru: A 25-year-old woman allegedly lost Rs 9.3 lakh after being lured by fraudsters with a work-from-home data-entry job, according to a complaint filed with the CEN crime police.The woman said she received a WhatsApp message on Sept 11 from an unknown number. The sender introduced himself as an HR representative of the head office of Megha Company and offered her a work-from-home data-entry job. He then sent her a link to join a Telegram group.After she joined the group, another Telegram user contacted her regarding the job. She was told she could earn Rs 200 a day by completing 20 tasks. She completed the tasks on the first day, and received Rs 200.The following day, she was assigned 13 tasks. When she was unable to complete them, she was directed to continue through another Telegram account with the profile name ‘Amarjeet Kumar’. The person asked her to make payments towards the tasks, following which she transferred Rs 3,000 online to the user ID provided.When she sought a refund after being unable to complete the tasks, the fraudsters allegedly told her she would have to make additional payments to withdraw the money.Believing them, she transferred money in several instalments to bank accounts provided by the unidentified persons between Sept 12 and 17. In all, she allegedly lost Rs 9,33,866.
