Mangaluru: Newly appointed Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC) president Padmaraj R. Poojary said a massive workers’ convention will be held in the first week of November to bring together party workers from the booth to the district level and provide them a common platform.Speaking after taking charge from outgoing DCC president Harish Kumar at the DCC office on Thursday, Padmaraj said the Congress was not merely a political party but a movement representing the aspirations of crores of people.He said his priority would be to strengthen the organisation and support grassroots workers. “Over the next eight days, I will visit booths in every assembly constituency of the district, meet booth presidents and workers, acknowledge their efforts and stand by them,” he said.Referring to the development projects announced during the recent Mangaluru cabinet meeting, Padmaraj said the party would take those achievements to every household. He added that the Congress would be further strengthened by reaching out to leaders and members of the public who were returning to the party after becoming disillusioned with the BJP’s rule.Outgoing President Harish Kumar said that Padmaraj has worked for the party since his student days. “We have faced setbacks because of our own internal divisions; going forward, we must display unity. Everyone must work like a soldier to fly the Congress flag in all eight assembly constituencies of the district in the upcoming elections,” he said.Former Union minister B Janardhana Poojary, KPCC working president and MLC Manjunath Bhandary and other leaders were present.
