Udupi: A major burglary was reported from Hebri Police station limits after unidentified thieves allegedly broke into a house and decamped with gold, silver and other valuables worth nearly Rs 60 lakh. According to police, the complainant woke up at around 6.45 am on May 24, and found the front and rear doors of the house open. Also, the cupboard in the hall had been opened, raising suspicion of theft. On checking the first-floor bedroom, it was found that the locker of a cupboard had also been broken open. Police suspect that the thieves gained entry into the house by tampering the latch of a rear window. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at Rs 59.9 lakh. Based on the complaint, Hebri police have registered a case under sections 331(4) and 305 of the BNS.
