Mangaluru: A 21-year-old college student was allegedly assaulted by a group of people near the KSRTC bus stand in Puttur on Wednesday evening over a previous altercation, police said.According to the complaint filed by Adil Hussain, a resident of Belthangady and a student at a private college in Puttur, the incident occurred while he was having tea with his friends Suhail and Azhar near the KSRTC bus stand in Puttur Kasaba village. At that time, the accused, identified as B K Moinuddin, Mohammed and five others known to the complainant, approached and allegedly assaulted him. When his friends questioned the attack, the accused reportedly threatened them as well. As members of the public intervened to disperse the altercation, the accused allegedly abused the complainant, issued death threats and fled the scene. The injured complainant was admitted to Govt Hospital in Puttur for treatment. In his complaint, Hussain stated that a few months ago, he intervened in a fight where the accused Moinuddin and others were assaulting students from his college. He believes the present attack was carried out in retaliation for that incident. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Puttur town police station under Sections 189(2), 191(2), 191(3), 352, 115(2), 118(1), 351(2) and 190 of the BNS.
