Software developer duped of Rs 6.4 lakh in online crypto trading fraud

TIMES NEWS NETWORKMangaluru: A 28-year-old software developer working at a private company in the city has fallen victim to an online investment fraud, losing Rs 6.4 lakh to unidentified scammers.According to the complaint, the victim was contacted via WhatsApp in March by an acquaintance who introduced her to an online cryptocurrency trading platform called BG Gold. The fraudster lured her with the promise ofdoubling her investment within 100 days. Believing the false claims, the victim downloaded the applications ‘Dsj and gold bs’ using links provided by the scammers and created an account. After receiving trading signals and seeing artificial growth reflected in her application wallet, the victim was further enticed to invest more money with the promise that her funds would double within 30 days. Between Feb 28, and April 11, the victim transferred a total of Rs 6,42,000 from her bank account to the bank accounts of unknown individuals via UPI.The fraud came to light when the applications suddenly stopped working. Upon enquiring with the acquaintance who initially suggested the platform, the victim discovered that they had also been cheated in a similar manner.The victim has filed a formal complaint seeking legal action against the unknown individuals responsible for the online fraud. Mangaluru CEN police have registered a case.
