Mangaluru: Uppinangady police busted an alleged counterfeit currency printing racket operating from a building in Adinje, Kaniyooru village, Belthangady taluk, and arrested seven persons.Addressing reporters Thursday, Dakshina Kannada SP Arun K said Uppinangady PSI Suthesh KP and his team carried out the raid following credible information.The arrested have been identified as Ibrahim, 60, of Kasaba village, Puttur; Shareef, 51, of Chengala village, Kasaragod district; Sandeep Pundalik Sholambi, 30, of Haliyal taluk, Uttara Kannada district; Mohammed Nabas, 37, Kasaragod district; Salman Faris, 25, of Olamogru village, Puttur; Sirajuddin, 34, of Uruvalu village, Belthangady; and Irshad, 31, of Puthila village, Belthangady.Police said they seized one counterfeit Rs 500 note, 21 A4-size sheets bearing images resembling Rs 500 notes, a computer, a photocopier, seals, and other equipment allegedly used to print fake currency.A case was registered at Uppinangady police station under Section 178 of the BNS, and further investigation is under way.SP Arun K said the operation was carried out with the assistance of Kodagu SP Bindu Mani RN, Kodagu district police personnel Yogeesh B and Niranjan MN, Dakshina Kannada Special Cell Inspector Nandakumar, and staff members ASI Deepak, HC Satish and HC Rauf, who assisted Uppinangady police in detecting the racket.
