RPF finds bag with jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh, returns to passenger in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: While leaving Krishnarajapuram railway station Wednesday afternoon after seeing off his wife, 32-year-old Vijay Kumar thought everything was fine. His wife, who had boarded MGR Chennai Central-Sainagar Shirdi Superfast Express, however, left behind a trolley bag at the station with jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh.The train left Krishnarajapuram at 3.55pm and headed towards Yelahanka. “Around 30 minutes later, my wife told me she’d left behind the bag at the platform. I immediately headed back to the station,” Vijay said.Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel spotted the blue-coloured bag on a bench while inspecting platform no. 4. The team alerted the railway station ASI and security checks were carried out.The bag was brought to the RPF office and kept in safe custody. “Vijay’s wife requested that it be handed over to her husband. Accordingly, at 8pm, Vijay reached the office from his MEG Layout residence and provided details of the bag. His identity and claim were verified and confirmed by his wife,” an RPF officer said.The bag contained clothes, two gold chains weighing 35 grams and a pair of gold earrings. This is the third such incident in Bengaluru where bags containing valuables worth lakhs of rupees have been left behind by passengers in trains and stations this year.
