Mangaluru: In line with NITK’s vision of building a swachh, swasth, surakshith and samruddh campus, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal has taken a significant step towards eco-friendly infrastructure by adopting piped natural gas (PNG) for its residential quarters and hostel facilities, supplied by GAIL Gas Ltd.The NITK Surathkal campus houses approximately 20 commercial establishments, including hostel messes and canteens. While PNG supply has already been extended to residential quarters within the campus, ensuring clean and uninterrupted fuel access to individual households, the Brahmagiri Hostel mess is the first to transition from LPG to PNG. The remaining establishments are scheduled to follow in a phased manner. The inauguration of PNG supply at the Brahmagiri Hostel mess was held on Monday, in the presence of Prof B Ravi, director, NITK Surathkal; Prof Kumar GN, registrar (i/c); Prof Venkatesha Perumal, dean, planning and development; Pradeep Tanwar, director (technical), PNGRB; Arpit Johri, assistant director (technical), PNGRB and Sai Sankar, general manager, GAIL Gas Ltd, along with senior officials from both the institute and GAIL Gas Ltd.
