Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta urged officials to execute the PM-RAHAT (Prime Minister – Road Accident Victims’ Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment) scheme efficiently and make DakshinaKannada a role model district.He instructed health officials and key departments to ensure the effective implementation of the Union Govt’s PM RAHAT scheme, which provides cashless emergency medical care to road accident victims. Speaking at a meeting, MP Chowta emphasized that the scheme is vital for saving lives by ensuring accident victims are promptly admitted to hospitals. He warned that strict and stern action would be taken against hospitals showing negligence, irresponsibility, or refusal to admit victims during emergencies.

Under the scheme, road accident victims are eligible for free emergency treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh for up to 7 days in both govt and private hospitals without paperwork delays. Although the Centre introduced this scheme in 2025, the state govt launched it in Feb. The MP stressed that it must now be implemented with utmost strictness and efficiency.To avoid delays, hospitals must enter patient details on the e-DAR portal within 24 hours of admission (or a maximum of 48hrs in critical cases). Once verified and approved by the police department, the information transfers to TMS portal, enabling the govt to cover the treatment costs directly.“All private and govt hospitals must strictly adhere to entry timelines; failure to do so, risks depriving eligible victims of free treatment. The DHO should hold taluk-level meetings with major hospitals to maintain systematic data of treated patients and hold monthly review meetings to monitor progress,” the MP said, adding that the health department, police, and hospitals should work in full coordination to create public awareness and extend benefits seamlessly to victims.Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said no victim should be denied free care under the scheme.
