NSUI launches signature campaign seeking justice in NEET issue

Mangaluru: The NSUI has launched a district-wide signature campaign across college campuses, demanding justice for students affected by the alleged NEET question paper leak and the student suicides linked to the examination, said NSUI Dakshina Kannada district president Suhan Alva.He told reporters on Tuesday, that under the leadership of NSUI office bearers in all eight assembly constituencies of the district, signatures of students will be collected on postcards and submitted to the Prime Minister.He said the NSUI will continue its agitation until Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns, taking responsibility for the “irregularities” in the NEET examination. The NSUI’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ programme is scheduled for the first week of Aug, in which representatives from Dakshina Kannada will also participate.Alva further said that apart from the NEET issue, the Congress has launched the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign, initiated by Lok Sabha Leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, to understand the various problems faced by students on college campuses. Through a QR code provided by NSUI, students can share their grievances directly with national-level and state-level leaders. The campaign will continue until the end of this month.NSUI opposes cancellation of MCom course at University CollegeAlva said the NSUI has received complaints from professors and students that the MCom course at University College, Hampankatta, is being discontinued from the 2026–27 academic year. The organisation has decided to meet the vice-chancellor of Mangalore University regarding the issue. He said around 40 applications have reportedly been received for admission to the MCom programme this year. “When there is sufficient demand, the course should not be discontinued. We will appeal to the vice-chancellor, and if necessary, take up the matter with the state govt. If our demand is not accepted, we will launch a protest,” he said.
