UDUPI: The body of Kundapur man Alwin Prakash Kunder, who was allegedly murdered in Sharjah and found dismembered inside his abandoned car, was brought back to Karnataka on Friday morning, even as a fresh question deepens the mystery surrounding his death: who accessed his bank account after he died? Alwin’s family has alleged that money was withdrawn from his account even after his death, but said it has no information on the amount withdrawn or who made the transactions.Alwin, 51, was allegedly murdered in the UAE in July and his body was found on August 12 inside the boot of his Toyota car, which had been abandoned on a road leading towards Oman.His family has said the body was cut into nine pieces and packed into two bags. His identity was confirmed through DNA matching.His elder brother, Anil Prashanth Kunder, said the family has received Alwin’s death certificate but is yet to get a copy of the FIR. He also said the family has not received updates on the investigation.“Money was withdrawn from his account even after his death. We do not know how much was withdrawn. We have not received any updates regarding the investigation.We have received Alwin’s death certificate, but the FIR copy has not arrived yet,” Anil said.The alleged withdrawals have raised questions over who had access to Alwin’s account after his death. The family, however, has not identified the person who made the withdrawals or disclosed the amount involved.The bank-account issue comes amid continuing questions over the whereabouts of Alwin’s wife Tina Kunder and their son.The family said it has been unable to contact the two. Tina had been working as a schoolteacher in the UAE, while their son was studying in Class 10 in Dubai. Although Tina is in India, the family has been unable to contact her.The family has also claimed that CCTV footage from the apartment showed two men and a woman moving luggage. However, it said it had no definitive information on whether Tina had been questioned by UAE police.Alwin’s brother said reports indicated that they may have left for India around July 26 or 27, but added that the family could not say anything conclusively without the FIR copy.Alwin had last contacted his family around July 20. Subsequently, messages were sent from his phone saying he was unwell and resting.The family became suspicious because he usually communicated through voice notes and did not generally type messages.The family later contacted one of Alwin’s classmates in Sharjah. A watchman at the apartment provided by his company allegedly told the classmate that Alwin had left for India, while the company’s HR department initially also told the family that he had travelled to India.Passport records, however, reportedly showed that he was still in the UAE, following which a missing-person complaint was filed in Sharjah.Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said Alwin’s brother had submitted a petition seeking assistance. The SP said Udupi police would need a letter rogatory, red-corner notice or Interpol notice before taking legal measures against any alleged accused.Police are also facilitating contact with the Dubai consulate so the family can coordinate on the investigation.Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Shrinivas Poojary said he had contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and coordinated with officials through the Indian mission in Sharjah.He said the investigation should establish those behind the murder and also shed light on the whereabouts and role of Alwin’s wife and son.
