Mangaluru: Redevelopment of Mangaluru Junction Railway Station (MAJN) under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is progressing in phases, with a focus on modern passenger amenities, accessibility, infrastructure upgrades and improved station aesthetics, Southern Railway said.Under Phase I, the station porch and façade have been upgraded, while the circulating area has been developed. Other completed works include installation of automated ticket vending machines, modernisation of the booking office with new display boards, construction of a waiting hall, a 6,270 sqm parking area, roofing for the station building, a new parcel office and a 10-bay platform shelter at Platform 1.Phase II focuses on passenger comfort and accessibility. Façade improvement works are under way, with porch pillar works completed and extension of the station building in progress. A sleeping pod facility on the first floor and landscaping in the circulating area have been completed.At Platforms 2 and 3, IRS-type platform shelters covering 11 bays are being provided. Six bays have been completed, while work on the remaining bays is under way. The entrance arch structure and approach road compound wall have also been completed. The station building roof has been extended towards the Nethravati End.Upgradation of the panel room, including cable concealment, wall cladding and flooring, is in progress. Dedicated facilities for Divyangjan, including parking, sinks and toilets, have been completed.A six-metre-wide foot overbridge is being erected to improve passenger movement within the station. Lifts at Platforms 1 and 2 are also being provided, with foundation and structural fabrication works completed. Reconstruction and repair of Platforms 2 and 3 are under way as part of the station’s ongoing modernisation.
