Udupi: Police Saturday arrested Derrick Crasta, accused in the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Ivan Richard Mascarenhas, at Herabudike in Belake village of Bhatkal taluk in Uttara Kannada district.Police said Crasta would be produced before the jurisdictional court.Mascarenhas, a resident of Barkur, was shot dead between 12.45am and 1am Friday.Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said Mascarenhas and Crasta had a prolonged phone conversation over financial matters that escalated into a heated argument. Crasta allegedly challenged Mascarenhas to come alone to Kundapur.Mascarenhas drove to Kundapur and parked opposite Holy Rosary Church on Church Road. Crasta allegedly arrived in another vehicle, pulled out a firearm and shot him in the leg.Police said Mascarenhas suffered severe blood loss and died on the spot.Crasta fled after the shooting, prompting police to form three special teams to trace him. Kundapur Town police registered a case under Section 103 of the BNS and sections 3 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act.
