Mangaluru: Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda) chairman Santosh Kumar Shetty held discussions with Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Venkatesh Prasad and other office-bearers Saturday on the proposed construction of a well-equipped cricket stadium in Mangaluru.Prasad said he is interested in establishing a cricket stadium in the city and would visit Mangaluru soon to inspect suitable sites. He also said he would hold consultations with district minister UT Khader in Mangaluru and discuss the next steps for the project.Highlighting Mangaluru’s well-developed connectivity, Prasad said the city was an ideal location for an international-standard cricket stadium. He assured that KSCA would make every effort to take the proposal forward at the earliest.Shetty told the KSCA delegation that two sites had already been identified for the proposed stadium and invited Prasad to visit Mangaluru to inspect them.An international-standard cricket stadium in Mangaluru would create greater opportunities for sportspersons and cricket enthusiasts in the coastal region. It would also strengthen the city’s sports infrastructure and boost tourism.KSCA treasurer BN Madhukar, executive committee member Parinita and member Anoop Sridhar, among others, participated in the discussions.
