Mangaluru: Mangaluru City police arrested three notorious house burglars from Nepal and recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh on Friday.The arrested are Thilak Kumar Khadka alias Tilak Khadka,36, a resident of Khetkot, Masta Rural municipality, Chainpur; Ashok Raj alias Ashok Singh alias Ashok Singh Thakuri,33, a resident of Ranada, Chainpur, Masta, Bajhang district and Dipender Rasaili,25, from Paltude Bazar, Kailali district, Nepal.Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that on July 11, that residents of a house in Matadakani, near Urwa Market, locked their home and traveled to a relative’s house at Kadambu in Vitla in Bantwal taluk. Upon returning on the morning of July 12, they found the back door broken and discovered that gold ornaments weighing 64g and Rs 25,000 in cash, totaling Rs 8,57,000 in value, had been stolen. A case was subsequently registered at the Barke police station under sections 331(4) and 305 of the BNS.Within five days of the case being registered, officers from the Barke police station apprehended the three suspects in Boloor in the early morning on Friday. During interrogation, police recovered not only the stolen gold from the Barke case, but also 790g of silver ornaments that the accused had stolen from Nashik, Maharashtra. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at Rs 10 lakh.The investigation revealed that the accused were also involved in a house burglary attempt within the Urwa police station limits in March 2026. The suspects confessed to their involvement in this previous incident during questioning.Furthermore, the gang is implicated in over 15 house burglaries across various police jurisdictions in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Davanagere, and Udupi. Police are also gathering information regarding additional cases filed against the accused in Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Haryana, and further investigations are under way. The arrested suspects will be produced before a court, the commissioner said, and commended the officers and staff of the Barke police station for their successful operation in tracking down and apprehending the accused.
