CCB nabs 2015 attempt-to-murder accused after 11 years

Mangaluru: Mangaluru CCB police have arrested the prime accused in a 2015 attempted murder case, who had been absconding for nearly 11 years.The case was registered against Chunki Akashbhavan alias Santhosh S, 34, a resident of Karnelli village in Shivamogga district’s Shikaripura taluk, at Kavoor police station.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the incident occurred during a mehndi ceremony at Akashbhavan in Mangaluru in 2015, when an altercation broke out between Ashok Kumar Kottari and another accused Jaggu.Following the dispute, Santosh, along with co-accused Ranjith, Dhanu, Dhooma, Sweety alias Naresh and Jaggu, allegedly attacked Kottari with swords, inflicting severe injuries.A case under IPC Section 307 was subsequently registered at Kavoor police station.Reddy said Santhosh had evaded arrest, prompting the court to issue a long-pending case (LPC) warrant against him. The CCB continued gathering intelligence and recently received information that he was in Shivamogga. Wednesday, a CCB team apprehended him at Chikkerur in Haveri district and handed him over to Kavoor police. The operation was carried out by the Mangaluru CCB unit, he added.
