BENGALURU: Three cab drivers from Bengaluru were arrested Monday on charges of hitting a 37-year-old man on the head with a rod in a road-rage incident at Maddur on Bengaluru-Mysuru highway on the night of July 5.Police said M Sagar Kumar, from Attiguppe near Vijayanagar, was driving back from Mysuru to Bengaluru when the alleged incident took place. The trigger, according to sources, was another vehicle, in which the accused were travelling, grazing the victim’s car at Gananguru toll plaza near Pandavapura junction in Mandya district.This is the second roadrage incident on the same stretch in under 10 days. The video of the latest incident has since gone viral on social media, triggering widespread public outrage.At least five men jumped out of the car, “damaged my vehicle and abused me when I tried to stop them. When I resisted, one of them hit my head with a jackrod,” Sagar Kumar stated.Accused followed victim’s car despite reaching agreementRe building the sequence of events with footage from the dashcam of the victim’s car, police said that Sagar, wife, mother-inlaw and grandmother were returning after participating in the naming ceremony of his sister’s son.After the toll plaza brawl, the victim and the accused came to an agreement and amicably parted ways. Both left for Bengaluru. However, after some distance, Sa gar, as per his complaint, noticed the car was closely trailing him.“On Maddur flyover, two cars intercepted the family’s vehicle, blocked its path and brushed against my vehicle. One of the cars was the same vehicle involved in the toll plaza incident. They blocked my path around 10pm,” Sagar said.“They damaged my vehicle and attacked me,” Sagar stated. By then, the women in the vehicle pleaded with the attackers to spare Sagar. They threatened him with dire consequences before driving away.In the night, Sagar was treated at Maddur govt hospital and he lodged a complaint. “Sagar mentioned the licence plate number of the cars in which the miscreants came. Based on the clues, we traced three suspects to AGS Layout on Monday evening and arrested them,” an officer said.The accused have been identified as Santosh Kumar, 36, Arun Kumar, 28, and D Abhishek, 27. Police are looking for two more suspects in the case.
