Mangaluru: Karnataka legislative assembly speaker UT Khader said on Monday that any law should be enacted only after ensuring that it does not cause inconvenience to people of any region, community or religion, and by gaining everyone’s trust.He was speaking in response to a query on the united opposition that defeated the constitutional amendment bill that sought to increase the strength of the Lok Sabha.Khader said he would not like to comment on it as he is holding the position of speaker. “I am holding a constitutional position. Even if a law is enacted, it must be constitutional. It is everyone’s responsibility to implement it in a way that does not cause inconvenience to people of any region, community or religion, and to do so by gaining everyone’s trust,” he said.“As a common man, to comment on the delimitation, we need to know the details, including the number of seats to be increased; on what basis the number of seats will be increased; whether it is on the basis of population. How can I comment now as I have no such information with me? There is a govt and an opposition at the Centre to discuss it,” he said.On an allegation that the Congress was targeting Muslim functionaries, Khader said that he would not comment on statements of political leaders. “Leaders of the respective political parties should respond to those allegations. Being the speaker, I do not belong to a particular political party or religion,” he said.To a query on possibilities of Congress considering him during the cabinet expansion, Khader said that he has no such information. “After 20 years, if the party allows me to contest elections and voters in Ullal continue to elect me, then I will think of it,” he said to a query if was an aspirant for CM’s post.On an allegation that the Congress has been sidelining Muslim leaders, Khader said politics is not a subject for him. “My responsibility is to ensure the well-being of the legislators from the ruling party and opposition,” he said.Speakers’ meet in OdishaKhader said speakers of five states—Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Nagaland and Sikkim—will meet in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Wednesday and Thursday. He said the meet involving speakers, secretaries and experts will discuss how the Anti-Defection Law in India can be strengthened. In fact, this is the second meeting, he said, adding that a report will be submitted to Lok Sabha speaker within a year.
