Mangaluru: A 16-year-old PU student who was critically injured after a parapet wall collapsed during a students’ union event in Mangaluru died on Saturday night, police said.The deceased was identified as Moideen Shammas, a student of a private college in the city.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said the Mangaluru South police had registered a case against event organiser Dinakar Shetty and building owner Parikshith Rai on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Mohammed Eliyas.The case has been registered under Sections 106(1), 125(a), 125(b) and 290 of the BNS. The incident occurred when students had gathered at a hall in Emmekere for the installation of office-bearers of the All College Students’ Association. Five students were injured in the incident.According to the complaint, the building was in poor condition. Despite this, the event was allegedly allowed to be held with a large number of students without adequate safety measures. The complaint further alleged that the organiser was aware of the condition of the building but failed to inform the students or take necessary precautions. The parapet wall along a passage on the first floor subsequently collapsed, seriously injuring Moideen Shammas, who later succumbed to his injuries.
