Mangaluru: City Crime Branch (CCB) arrested three persons allegedly involved in selling MDMA in the city and seized 240g of the synthetic drug valued at around Rs 24 lakh, Saturday evening.The arrested were identified as Nawaz alias Navva alias Mudipu Nawaz, 35, Mohammed Arif N, 36, and Lloyd D’Souza, 35, from Kairangala, Mudipu.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said that, acting on a tip-off that the accused were procuring MDMA from Bengaluru and selling it in Mangaluru, allegedly targeting members of the public and students, CCB personnel conducted an operation near Kayargoli Cross at Mudipu in Ullal taluk.Police also seized four mobile phones and a tempo allegedly used to transport the drugs. The total value of the seized items, including the drugs, is estimated at Rs 29.8 lakh.A case has been registered at Konaje police station, and further investigation is under way.Police said Nawaz has around 16 criminal cases registered against him at various police stations in the city, involving offences including assault, criminal intimidation, attempt to murder, kidnapping, rape, cheating, cattle theft and drug peddling.Of these, 12 cases are registered at Konaje police station, two at Ullal, and one each at Mulki and Surathkal. Four of the cases, two each at Ullal and Konaje police stations, are related to drug peddling, police said.Police suspect that several others are involved in the drug supply and transportation network, and efforts are under way to identify and arrest them.
