Mangaluru: City police have intensified their anti-drug crackdown under the state’s ‘Operation RISE’ campaign, with officials expressing confidence in bringing the situation under control through sustained efforts. Posters for ‘Operation RISE’ and the youth-focused ‘Beda Bro’ campaign were released in the city on Thursday.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said 95 accused are currently in judicial custody, including six foreign nationals arrested in NDPS cases.He said the anonymous QR code-based reporting system is playing a key role in detecting offences, with every complaint verified weekly.

Dakshina Kannada districtPolice have also stepped up their anti-drug drive across the district, registering an increase in cases this year compared to last year, according to officials.As part of the campaign, anti-drug committees have been set up in 174 educational institutions under the Mangaluru city police commissionerate and 101 under Dakshina Kannada district police. Students are required to submit voluntary anti-drug undertakings upon admission, while institutions conduct regular awareness programmes and periodic screenings.Police are also deploying a mobile forensic laboratory for on-the-spot drug testing and a specially trained Belgian Malinois sniffer dog to detect concealed narcotics during search operations.Launched on June 30, Operation RISE aims to make Karnataka a drug-free state by 2028.
