Man duped of Rs 5.6 lakh in online bike sale scam

Mangaluru: A 54-year-old man from Ullal has allegedly been cheated of Rs 5.6 lakh in an online fraud, after attempting to purchase a motorcycle advertised on an online marketplace platform.According to the complaint registered at the Ullal police station, the complainant and his son came across an advertisement on the platform for the sale of the motorcycle. On contacting the seller, the accused identified himself as Syed Touseef Pasha and claimed that he was associated with a known auto consultant in VV Puram, Bengaluru.The accused initially asked the complainant to pay Rs 5,000 as a transfer fee and Rs 10,000 as commission. After gaining their confidence, he demanded an advance payment of Rs 57,000, which the complainant transferred through UPI on Feb 18 to the mobile number provided by the accused. Subsequently, following the accused’s instructions, the complainant and his son transferred money through UPI, NEFT and IMPS to various UPI IDs and bank accounts on different dates until March 4. In total, they transferred Rs 5.6 lakh.When the accused continued demanding more money, the complainant’s son questioned him about the delivery of the motorcycle and the payments already made. The accused allegedly abused him and threatened him with dire consequences. A case has been registered, and police have initiated an investigation into the online fraud.
