Mangaluru: A total of 73 petitions were submitted to the office of Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai Wednesday, seeking immediate repairs to pothole-ridden gram panchayat roads and better drainage facilities across the constituency.According to sources in the MLA’s office, the memorandums highlighted how heavy rains across Puttur taluk had damaged roads in several gram panchayat areas and caused waterlogging due to the lack of proper drainage systems, disrupting traffic movement and increasing the risk of vehicular accidents.Responding to the public’s appeal, Rai directed zilla panchayat CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbhari to inspect all roads under the Puttur assembly constituency, undertake repairs wherever necessary and construct drains where they are missing to ensure smooth flow of rainwater.The MLA also instructed the official to utilise ZP funds for the work, inform him immediately if additional funds are required and ensure that the works begin without delay.Rai said, “Around 73 citizens submitted petitions to my office highlighting how heavy rains have damaged gram panchayat roads and caused waterlogging due to a lack of drains, creating severe traffic hurdles. Responding to their requests, I have directed the ZP CEO to begin repair work immediately. Asphalt laying will be taken up after the monsoon season. I will make all necessary arrangements to ensure that the people of my constituency do not face inconvenience. Directions have also been given to inform me if there is any shortfall in funding.”He added that repair operations would be carried out simultaneously across all GP roads in the constituency.
