Udupi: Two youths drowned in the Swarna river near Hiragana village, Karkala on Tuesday. Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said, four friends from Hiragana had gone to the river for swimming around 2.30 pm. Harshan, 21, and Bharath, 29, drowned, while Ranjith, 27, and Ketan, 23, were rescued and remained safe. Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with divers, launched a search and rescue operation using ropes, life jackets and a drone. The bodies of the two youths were recovered around 6 pm. The bodies were shifted to the Govt Hospital in Karkala for postmortem. Further legal and procedural formalities are under way.
