Mangaluru: City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said eight persons were found at one construction site and three at another during verification drives. Police are collecting their documents and will send a report to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), seeking orders for their detention and deportation, the commissioner said.Police will also register a case against a middleman from West Bengal who allegedly brought Bangladeshi nationals to Mangaluru for construction work, along with labourers from other states.Among the detained are Md Kausar Ali, 21; Md Nur Amin, 34; Md Nahidul Islam, 22; Md Humayon Kobir, 22; Md Romjan Ali, 23; Md Abdul Rahaman Royel, 19; Md Noyan, 24; and four minors, from Godagari Upazila, Rajshahi Zila, Dhaka, Bangladesh.Thursday, Surathkal police raided an under-construction building and during document verification of 54 construction workers, eight Bangladesh nationals were allegedly found residing there illegally.Constitute special task force: MLAMangaluru City North MLA Y Bharath Shetty has urged the Dakshina Kannada district administration to take the special intensive revision (SIR) seriously and use the voter list revision process to identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. While commending the police for verification drives, Shetty demanded the constitution of a special task force to intensify checks across the district.He alleged that some labour agents were helping illegal immigrants obtain Aadhaar cards and secure rented accommodation. Such networks should be identified and strict action initiated against those facilitating fake documents, he said.Shetty also sought a database of rented houses in the district and verification of their occupants. Officials should visit every house during the SIR process and ensure thorough scrutiny of documents, he added.The MLA demanded an investigation into whether illegal Bangladeshi immigrants had obtained fake documents and voted in previous elections. Warning that lapses in the verification process could have implications for internal security, Shetty urged the state govt to set aside political differences and cooperate with the Centre’s drive to identify illegal immigrants.“The state govt should work with the Centre in the interest of national security,” he said.
