Mangaluru: Acting on a tip-off, police raided an illegal site of slaughter near the Phalguni River in Mangaluru, and seized cattle, meat, and equipment, while the suspect fled the scene on Wednesday.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that at 9.15 am, based on credible information that 4–5 individuals were illegally slaughtering cattle at a shed built along the banks of the Phalguni River behind the house of Ahmed near Badria Juma Masjid in Kasaba Bengre village, a raid was conducted. Under the guidance of Mangaluru North Subdivision ACP Srikanth and Panambur PI Saleem Abbas, PSI Srikala, along with her team, carried out the operation. During the raid, police rescued nine cattle that were tied up for illegal slaughter. They also seized 205 kg of cattle meat that was already processed and stored for sale, along with the items used for slaughter. The accused involved in the act, identified as Kabir alias Petha Kabir of Kasaba Bengre, Badru alias Badruddin of Jokatte, and three others, managed to flee from the spot. A team has been formed to trace and arrest the absconding accused. A case has been registered at Panambur police station under Section 303(2) of the BNS, Sections 4, 7, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. In another case, Bajpe police have intercepted a car carrying cattle. The driver fled the scene.
