Students told to question, examine, think

Mangaluru: World Space Week-2026 was inaugurated at the Pilikula Regional Science Centre on Oct 7. The programme was organised by the Pilikula Development Authority in association with the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru, and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro).CS Madhusudhan, deputy director, URSC, inaugurated the programme and said students should be encouraged to develop a scientific temperament by cultivating the habit of questioning, examining and thinking based on evidence. He said technology should be used logically and students should apply the knowledge gained from books in their everyday lives. The programme provided a valuable platform for interaction between students, teachers and Isro scientists, he added.Prof G Srinikethan, retired professor of NITK Surathkal and chief guest, said continuous research and innovation in rocket technology had opened up new possibilities in space exploration.Dr Arun Kumar Shetty N, commissioner, Pilikula Development Authority, said innovative ideas, technology and collaboration should be given greater importance in building a developed India. He urged students to develop ideas aimed at improving people’s lives and contribute to the development of the nation.The programme was followed by an exhibition of Isro space science models and exhibits at the gallery adjacent to Swami Vivekananda Planetarium. A special 2D show, The Moon, was also screened for the students.Around 750 students and teachers from high schools, PU colleges and diploma colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts participated in the programme.
