Udupi: A 55-year-old man was found dead with a stab injury to his neck near Babuthota jetty at Malpe on Tuesday.The deceased is Parameshi alias Param Veli,55, a native of Andhra Pradesh, who had been living in the harbour area and collecting scrap materials for the past three years.According to the complaint filed by Rishabh,24, a resident of Kodavoor, who runs Malpe Marine Agencies near Babuthota jetty, there is an open space between the agency premise and a fish box storage godown. Fishermen who go to their boats usually park their motorcycles there. Unknown persons also reportedly slept at the spot at night.Parameshi had been regularly sleeping at the spot using a plastic sack, particularly during afternoons and nights. At 7pm on Monday, Rishabh reportedly saw Parameshi sitting in the open space beside his agency premises, before he closed the shutters and left.When he returned at 8.30am on Tuesday, Rishabh found Parameshi lying on the sack in a pool of blood. Blood was seen on the ground near his neck.Police suspect that unidentified assailants attacked Parameshi with a weapon, and stabbed him in the neck with an intention to kill, sometime between 7pm on Monday and 8.30am on Tuesday. The motive for the murder is yet to be established. Malpe police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
