Udupi: The family of a man, murdered allegedly in the UAE and his body cut into nine pieces and packed into two bags, has sought a probe into the death. The victim’s wife and their teenage son have reportedly remained untraceable.Anil Prashanth Kunder said his younger brother, Alwin Prakash Kunder, was murdered in July. His body was found in the boot of his Toyota abandoned on a road leading to Oman.According to the family, Alwin last contacted them around July 20. Messages were subsequently sent from his phone stating he was unwell and resting. However, the family became suspicious as Alwin usually communicated through voice notes and rarely typed messages. “When we questioned him and asked him to make a call, there was no response after that,” Anil said.The family contacted one of Alwin’s classmates in Sharjah, who visited the apartment provided by his company. A watchman allegedly told him Alwin had left for India. The company’s HR department initially informed the family he had travelled to India. However, after the family pointed out that he had not arrived, passport records were checked and reportedly showed he was still in the UAE, he said.A complaint was filed in Sharjah. The family was later informed a body had been recovered. According to Anil, Alwin’s body was found on Aug 12. His identity was confirmed through DNA matching. The family has received Alwin’s death certificate, but is yet to obtain a copy of the FIR.Alwin had been married to Tina Kunder for around 20 years. The couple have a son studying in Class 10 in Dubai, while Tina worked as a schoolteacher there, according to the family.The family said they have been unable to contact Tina and their son. They claimed CCTV footage from the apartment showed two men and a woman moving luggage. However, they said they had no definitive information on whether Tina had been questioned by UAE police.“We cannot say anything conclusively without the FIR copy. Reports indicate they may have left for India around July 26 or 27,” Anil said.The family has approached Tina’s native place along with her mother and is preparing to file complaints regarding the disappearance of Tina and her son.Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said Alwin’s brother had submitted a petition seeking assistance. “Unless a letter rogatory, red-corner Notice or any Interpol notice is issued against the alleged accused, there is no legal measure to be taken by Udupi police at this point,” he said.Police are informally facilitating contact with the Dubai consulate so the family can coordinate on the investigation. “We will seek information regarding the same through Interpol channels,” the SP said.
