Mangaluru: Kankanady Town police seized a truck allegedly transporting cattle in a cruel manner, and rescued 17 animals near Padil on Tuesday.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that acting on a tip-off during rounds, a police team led by a PSI stopped the truck near a car showroom at Padil. The truck was travelling from Adyar towards Mangaluru. While the driver was detained, another person who was travelling in the vehicle fled from the spot.Truck driver Sadiq G,23, a resident of Hassan district, was taken into custody.Police said the truck was covered with a green tarpaulin and the 17 cattle were found tied tightly to the iron carriage of the vehicle with ropes, without adequate safety measures.A case has been registered at Kankanady Town police station under sections 11(A) and 11(D) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Section 6 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act and Section 3(5) of the BNS.Police seized the cattle, the truck and Sadiq’s cellphone, among other articles.Police are searching for the other accused, identified as Subhan and Rehman.
