A large tree toppled onto a school bus, resulting in the tragic death of a child

DAKSHIN KANNADA: A child was killed and two others were injured after a massive roadside tree fell on a moving school bus near Barimaru village in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday evening, police said.The bus, belonging to Kalladka Shree Rama School, was ferrying students home after classes when the tree suddenly uprooted and crashed onto the vehicle.According to Dakshina Kannada police, the incident took place around 5pm when the school bus was dropping students back to their homes after school hours.Police said a large tree standing along the roadside was uprooted and fell on the bus, crushing a portion of the vehicle.One child died on the spot after sustaining severe injuries, while two others were hurt and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.The Bantwal Rural police have registered a case in connection with the incident and initiated a detailed investigation.Authorities are yet to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the tree collapsing on the moving vehicle.Karnataka deputy chief minister G Parameshwara expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy and said he had directed the district administration to provide compensation to the bereaved family.In a post on X, Parameshwara said he had spoken to the deputy commissioner and instructed officials to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured children.“Deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic incident in Bantwal, where a tree fell on a school bus during rains, claiming the life of young Chiranvi and leaving a couple of other children injured,” he said.Parameshwara added that he had also spoken to district in-charge minister U T Khader and requested him to personally oversee relief and support measures.“My heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. I pray that the injured children recover swiftly and completely. In this hour of grief, the Government of Karnataka stands firmly with the affected families,” he said.(With ANI inputs)
