13k voters ‘permanently shifted’ sans verification: MP Tejasvi Surya

Bengaluru: Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya, Tuesday, alleged officials involved in the SIR process prepared a false report, tagging more than 13,000 voters in HSR layout as ‘permanently shifted’ without door-to-door verification. He demanded re-verification and a high level probe, while acting against officials responsible for false reports.Highlighting an incident in ward 174, HSR layout, Surya said in one fell swoop removed more than 13,000 eligible voters from the list as ‘UEF – Permanent Shifting’. This was without permission of BLA-2, ignoring GPS based photo record and enumeration sticker, he wrote to the chief electoral officer Anbuk Kumar, Monday.Releasing the letter on his X handle, Surya posted, “Where is the GPS-based photo evidence? Where are the enumeration stickers on the houses? Why did the officials who did not even go door to door prepare a false report?”In the letter, Surya said 53 polling booths faced lapses in door to door enumeration. On July 16, he said, without any information or ground verification, eligible voters were recorded as ‘UEF-permanent shifting’. Citing lapse in following protocol, he said BLOs did not ascertain from the neighbours if the voters had moved. He raised questions on the transparency and faith in the process that had reported 75 per cent completion of house to house visits, and said the locals had complained that the BLOs had not visited many houses in the area that has recorded 45 per cent voting in the past election.
