Mangaluru: Garbage dumping continues unabated along the NH-66 stretch near Adam Kudru near Ullal despite repeated awareness efforts by a youth group and complaints by residents.A group led by Kannada writer Salam Sammi under the banner Voice of Gen Z had first highlighted the issue through a video posted around June 26, urging people not to dump waste at the spot. However, with no impact, a second video was uploaded on July 2, showing that dumping had continued and, according to the group, even increased.Sammi said that despite installing flex boards at the location, warning that legal action would be taken against violators, the response has been minimal. Even after putting up boards and repeated appeals, dumping has reduced only by about 10 to 20%, he said. While municipal authorities have been clearing the accumulated waste intermittently, fresh garbage continues to be dumped at the site. According to Sammi, the source of the dumping remains unclear.Locals here say it is not residents from nearby houses. Some suspect people coming from Talapady side or even from Kerala, but it is not confirmed, he said. There are residential houses in the vicinity, and they have approached the municipality multiple times regarding the issue.Sammi said the initiative is part of a broader effort by the group, which was started around two months ago, to address civic issues. He said, through the group, he plans to expand its activities by involving more youth and taking up awareness drives on cleanliness, civic responsibility and other social issues, including possible door-to-door campaigns in the future. He said the organisation is committed to empowering young people and creating a positive impact in society, and also spreading social awareness among youth. So far, around 30 young members have joined us, and we plan to expand to more than 100 in the next few months.
