Udupi: Coastal Security Police (CSP) has instructed all watersports boat owners to obtain permission from the respective departments mandatorily. Officials said that while there are 227 watersports boats under nine CSP limits, 151 have obtained permits and they have warned all remaining boat owners to register themselves before legal actions are initiated.It is mandatory to obtain permits from various departments to operate watersports under CSP limits. Earlier, of the 227 watersports, owners of only 42 had obtained permits. Later, meetings of watersports boat owners were convened in all the nine CSP stations. Following this, 151 obtained required permissions from various departments, CSP officials stated, adding that 76 boat owners are yet to complete the process.Though the CSP has given sufficient time for the boat owners to obtain permits, many of them have not submitted details yet. Watersports boats will be allowed operate in CSP jurisdiction only if they have permits. Further, those boat owners will be held responsible for any untoward incidents if they do not have permits, the CSP warned.In a tragic incident that took place on Jan 26 this year, two tourists died after a watersports boat with 28 people capsized near Delta Beach Cross in Kanyana, Udupi. A case in this regard has been registered at Kota police station under Sections 284, 125(a), 106, 110 and 3(5) of the BNS, the CSP stated.
