Bengaluru agriculture university students skip classes over recruitment issue

Bengaluru: Classes were disrupted as students of University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), GKVK, launched a protest alleging that govt illegally expanded eligibility criteria for recruitment to the posts of agricultural officer (AO) and assistant agricultural officer (AAO).They maintained that AO and AAO are specialised technical posts responsible for providing scientific advice to farmers on crop management, soil health, pest and disease control, agricultural extension and implementation of govt schemes. Therefore, the posts should be filled only by candidates having qualifications recognised under existing recruitment rules, the students said.“We forwarded their memorandum to govt, and a metting will be convened. We have spoken to the students and assured them that their concerns are being heard,” said vice-chancellor SV Suresha.
