Bengaluru: A 61-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter died after a speeding water tanker rammed the two-wheeler on Doddakannahalli-Carmelaram Road early Monday.The victim, Sudha Devi, 61, was a native of Bihar. Her husband, Kapil Dev Prasad, 65, escaped with minor injuries. The couple had been living with their son, a software engineer, in Halanayakanahalli, off Sarjapur Road.Police said Kapil was taking his wife to a hospital on the scooter at 6.40am. While they were travelling on Doddakannahalli-Carmelaram Road, they noticed a school bus parked on the roadside. As Kapil tried to steer the scooter aside by slowing down, the water tanker hit the vehicle from the rear, causing the couple to fall onto the road.The water tanker driver hid at a nearby location fearing assault by passersby. He later appeared before Bellandur traffic police and was subjected to an alcometer test, the result of which was negative.Two-wheelers collide, helmetless rider diesA 27-year-old two-wheeler rider died after colliding with another two-wheeler ridden by a student on Mysuru Road near BDA apartments in Mylasandra Sunday night. The deceased, Venkatesh, was a resident of Chamarajpet, and the injured, Chandana, a resident of Mysuru Road and native of Uttara Kannada district. Venkatesh was working at a hardware shop, while Chandana is a college student.Police said the accident happened at 8.30pm when Chandana, who was riding her scooter ahead of Venkatesh, allegedly took a sudden left turn. Venkatesh was unable to stop his two-wheeler and rammed her scooter. Police said Venkatesh was not wearing a helmet and sustained fatal head injuries.BOX (pix of ambulance in comyan)Riders perform wheelies, block ambulanceActing suo motu on a social media video, traffic police seized two gearless scooters and are searching for their riders for allegedly performing wheelie stunts and blocking the path of an ambulance carrying a patient for around one minute.The incident, which occurred on July 4 between Goraguntapalya and Yeshwantpur junction, was recorded on the phone of an occupant in the ambulance, who was accompanying the male patient.In the video, youths on three scooters were seen performing stunts in the middle of the road, and the ambulance driver is heard repeatedly honking and blowing the siren. “With help of the scooters’ licence plates, we traced them to a slum near Yeshwantpur railway station Monday and seized two vehicles,” an officer said.
