Sea erosion threatens homes in Uttara Kannada village

Karwar: Rough seas and relentless rain are taking a toll on coastal life in Harwad village of Ankola taluk in Uttara Kannada district, where rising waves and shoreline erosion are threatening homes.Residents say the sea has grown increasingly aggressive over the past few days, with powerful waves crashing close to houses along the shore. Two houses belonging to Satish Harikantra and Sumitra Harikantra have been identified as being at immediate risk due to coastal erosion.With the situation turning serious, members of the affected families have begun moving out as a precaution, shifting to safer locations.Officials from the revenue department, the gram panchayat and the ports department visited the site after receiving information and assessed the extent of the damage. Authorities said the situation is under constant watch and necessary precautionary measures are being taken to ensure residents’ safety.Meanwhile, anxiety is growing among people living along the Harwad coastline as erosion continues. Villagers are urging the govt to take up permanent solutions, including the construction of a strong seawall and other protective measures to safeguard homes and livelihoods.
