Young Indians Parliament 2026 engages students in civic process

Mangaluru: The Young Indians (Yi) Mangaluru Chapter organised Young Indians Parliament (YIP) 2026 at The Bharath Academy bringing together 60 students from classes 9 and 10 from various schools for an immersive experience in democracy, leadership, public policy, and responsible citizenship.YIP is an experiential civic leadership initiative that enables students to understand democratic processes and experience parliamentary proceedings. The event was inaugurated by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, who encouraged participants to become informed, responsible, and proactive citizens. He asked students to frame questions he could raise during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Capt Chowta also recalled the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, noting July 4 as his Mahasamadhi Day, and urged students to learn from his teachings.Mangaluru City North MLA Y The Bharath Shetty shared insights with the participants.Parliament got under way, with political parties announcing manifestos, followed by the formation of a coalition government. MPs then spoke on matters of urgent importance, followed by Question Hour and Zero Hour. Parliamentary committees drafted bills, which were debated and voted upon before the House was adjourned for the day.The theme for discussion was ‘Balancing economic growth, environmental sustainability and community livelihoods in India’s coastal regions: The future of ports, fisheries, tourism, marine ecosystems and blue economy.”The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony, during which outstanding participants were recognised for their performance, leadership, debating skills, and parliamentary conduct.The Bharath Academy, the title sponsor of YIP 2026, hosted the event. Chapter sponsors included Vertex Workspaces, SSI People, and Teramor Estates Pvt. Ltd, and MS Pai & Co.
