BENGALURU: Global IT major Capgemini has said it is cooperating with authorities and has temporarily shut its Bengaluru campus day care facility after disturbing videos surfaced showing toddlers being subjected to alleged inhuman treatment by caregivers at the centre.The response came after police booked five women working as nannies at the day care centre located on Capgemini’s Brookefield campus.The case was registered after a child helpline official received videos that purportedly show toddlers being threatened, locked inside bathrooms, placed inside a front-loading washing machine and sprayed with water using a toilet jet.In a statement, Capgemini said, “Capgemini’s foremost priority is the health, safety and well-being of its employees and their family members. We are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and assisting them in their efforts to establish the facts. As a precautionary measure, we are temporarily closing the Bengaluru campus day care facility.”According to police, the videos were recorded by a staff member of the centre. Sources said the person who recorded the footage acted after her friend, who also worked at the crèche, was terminated last month. The footage was later shared with the child helpline, prompting official action.HAL police have registered a case against the five caregivers, identified as Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu and Bindu, under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).A senior police officer said notices would be issued to the women, asking them to appear for questioning.Police said the videos show the nannies threatening toddlers aged between two and three years when they cried or caused disturbance. The children are reportedly those of tech professionals working at the campus.Investigators on Wednesday inspected the day care premises and collected CCTV footage as part of the probe. Police said they would also speak to parents and guardians to check if they had noticed any unusual behaviour or if the children had shown signs of distress or complained of ill-treatment.The incident has sparked outrage among parents and on social media, raising serious concerns about safety standards and monitoring mechanisms at workplace crèches, particularly those catering to very young children.
