Tulu classes in Bengaluru draw record 300 learners
Candidates attend Tulu script, language learning classes held at RNS Vidyaniketana, Bengaluru

Mangaluru: Tulu learning classes in Bengaluru saw their highest-ever participation this year, with around 300 learners enrolling in a programme conducted by the Jai Tulunadu Bengaluru unit.Started in 2020, the organisation offers Tulu script and language classes in the city. This year, classes were held in association with Bunt’s Sangha Bengaluru on June 21 at RNS Vidyaniketana.Sharath Kodavooru, vice president of Jai Tulunadu Bengaluru, told TOI that participants came from Kolar, Chikkamagaluru, and other parts of the state. After two offline interactive classes, sessions continue online. A three-hour examination follows, after which successful candidates are awarded certificates.This is the Bengaluru unit’s fourth such workshop. Around 300 workshops have been conducted across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasaragod.

Sharath said the unit also conducts ‘Bale Tulu Lipitu Pudhar Bareka’ (loosely translates to: come, write your name) and has released a book titled ‘Tulu Baravuda Aisira’ to aid learners. The unit has its own teachers, who undergo specialised training after studying with the organisation and clearing examinations. Started in 2015, the Bengaluru unit has around 3,000 members.Priya Yathish from Hosakerehalli said she had not expected such a turnout. She said her children later joined after seeing the enthusiasm among participants.Ashwini Ramachandra from Kolar said she travelled nearly three hours to attend the classes. “I love the culture, bonds, devotion, and respect of the people of Tulunadu,” she said.
