Drunk driver held after injuring scooter rider

Udupi: A man has been remanded in judicial custody after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and rammed his car into a scooter rider on NH-169(A) near Sai Sagar Hotel in Manipal.On June 19, the complainant, Abhishek Nayak,21, from Alevoor in Udupi taluk, was returning home to Kelaparkala after visiting Manipal for work on his scooter. At 10.08 pm, when he reached the U-turn near Sai Sagar Hotel on NH-169(A) in Manipal, a car driven by the accused Samegdh LJ,25, a resident of Mudaru, Karkala, allegedly came from the MIT side of Manipal in a rash and negligent manner and collided with the complainant’s scooter.As a result of the collision, both vehicles were damaged, and Abhishek sustained grievous injuries. It was found that the accused was driving the car under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Manipal police station under Sections 281, 125(a), and 110 of the BNS, and an investigation is under way. The accused was arrested on Monday and produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
